About this game
Classic chess against the computer. You play White and move first; checkmate the enemy king to win. Win in fewer moves with more pieces left for a higher score.
How to play
- Tap one of your pieces to see dots on the squares it can reach (rings mean a capture). Tap a square or drag the piece there.
- All standard rules apply, including castling, en passant and promotion. When a pawn reaches the last rank, choose a queen, rook, bishop or knight.
- Stalemate, threefold repetition, the 50-move rule and insufficient mating material are draws.
- Undo (bottom right) takes back your move and the reply, up to 3 times a game. The flag on the left resigns (press twice).
- Score (wins only): 1000 + your remaining material Γ 20 β your moves Γ 5 β undos Γ 100. Pawn 1, knight 3, bishop 3, rook 5, queen 9.
Tips
- Open with a centre pawn and bring your knights and bishops out early.
- Castle to tuck your king safely into a corner.
- Before each move, check whether the computer can capture that piece for free.
